During the past couple of years, we have witnessed unprecedented suppression of freedom of speech and other basic human rights in Australia.
Anthony Gray is a Professor of Law at the University of Southern Queensland. He is a former Associate Dean of Law, was as Director of Schools and Community Education at the Queensland Law Society and has published a number of research monographs and over 140 refereed research articles.
Professor Gray will present on the topic of “Freedom of Speech and Critical Race Theory”. The talk will concern the importance of freedom of speech and the way in which some critics argue it needs to be significantly restricted.
Augusto Zimmermann is Professor of Constitutional Law and Head of Law at the Sheridan Institute of Higher Education, Perth. He is also a former Law Reform Commissioner in Western Australia and a former Associate Dean (Research) at Murdoch University’s School of Law. He is also President of the Western Australian Legal Theory Association.
Professor Zimmerman will cover the topic of “Wokeshevism: Critical Theories and the Tyrant Left” as an emerging issue worldwide and how to resist it lawfully and peacefully.
Gabriël A. Moens AM is an Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of Queensland and an Adjunct Professor at The University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney, and at Curtin University. He is an award-winning author who has researched and written widely in the areas of jurisprudence, constitutional law and arbitration. In 2019, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to legal education.
Professor Moens will introduce Professor Zimmermann and cover the topic of “Being Awake to Woke”.
This event is also a book launch for “Wokeshevism: Critical Theories and the Tyrant Left” (The Western Australian Jurist, Volume 12 & Connor Court Publishing, 2023) – a new book edited by Augusto Zimmermann and Joshua Forrester with contributions by leading academics such as Professor Robert P George (Princeton), Professor James Allan (Queensland), Professor Steven Alan Samson (Liberty) and several others.
