Murdoch Law Academics Speak at Religious Freedom Inquiry

Murdoch law academics Dr Augusto Zimmermann and Lorraine Finlay and PhD candidate Joshua Forrester have given evidence before the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade.

The Parliamentary Committee is currently conducting an Inquiry into the status of the human right to freedom of religion or belief.  The Committee received almost 200 written submissions and has conducted public hearings in Sydney and Melbourne.  Dr Zimmermann, Ms Finlay and Mr Forrester were invited to give evidence over video-link on 7 June, and spent over an hour discussing their Inquiry submission with the Committee.

In both their written submission and oral evidence they emphasized the fundamental importance of freedom of religion as a human right to be protected both within Australia and internationally.  A copy of their written submission can be found on the Parliament of Australia website.
