Our President, Dr Augusto Zimmermann, has just returned from Melbourne where he was invited to deliver two presentations at ‘Mobilize Conference: The Intercession of Faith and Politics’.
Held last Saturday in Melbourne at the vibrant Discover Church of charismatic Pastor Steve Cioccolanti, ‘Mobilise Conference’ discussed the intersection of Faith & Politics, including the participation of Christians in the political process and the legitimate role of government in a free society.
The conference featured Dan Flynn (ACL Victorian Director), Dr Augusto Zimmermann and Pastor Steve Cioccolanti as conference speakers.
Dan Flynn is the Victorian Director of the Australian Christian Lobby. He is a lawyer by profession and practiced as a Barrister from 1989 to 2006, before commencing as a State Solicitor with the Victorian Government from 2008 until joining ACL in 2012.
Ps Cioccolanti is the bestselling author of several Christian books and currently has the largest social media outreach and online church in Australia, with 33 million views on YouTube alone. 230,000 subscribers follow his messages online. In his presentation he informed that God’s law is always relevant and it is applicable to all areas of life.
“Law creates justice and justice creates peace. … We bless evil, we make peace with evil, and then we don’t know why things are going so terribly wrong. We Christians seem to talk a lot these days about love and mercy, but we seem to discuss very little about justice and truth”, said Ps Ciocollanti.
Dr Zimmermann addressed the Christian foundations of Australia’s legal system. “When considered alongside the development of colonial laws and the adoption of the common-law tradition, it is evident that the foundations of Australia’s laws have very discernible Christian roots. To state this obvious fact is not to be ‘intolerant’ of other religions but to stress an undeniable fact”, said Dr Zimmermann.
WALTA is proud of our distinguished President and congratulates him on another successful participation.
