The topic of this lecture is related to Professor Zimmermann’s thesis successfully submitted on 20 July 2006 in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Monash University, Faculty of Law.

Professor Zimmermann is an internationally known legal academic and widely recognised as a leading expert on the ideal of legality known as the Rule of Law.
Amongst his numerous academic articles and book chapters on the subject, Professor Zimmermann has written a chapter for the seminal book on the Rule of Law edited by the then President of the American Bar Association (ABA), Dr James R Silkenat.
Edited by Dr Silkenat, ‘The Legal Doctrines of the Rule of Law and the Legal State’ (Springer, 2014) is considered a major reference on the subject, containing contributions of the world’s leading legal academics in the field, including Professor Zimmermann himself.
